Crew Carwash Joining Gleaners Food Bank in Fight Against Hunger

Carwash to accept canned goods and cash donations for Gleaners Food Bank

(INDIANAPOLIS) September 19, 2016 – Crew Carwash, a long-standing Central Indiana carwash organization, is partnering with Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana for its second annual HUNGERCREW fundraiser.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m., Crew Carwash will provide a FREE FastWax service to any customer who donates a canned food item or cash donation of any kind. Crew will accept donations at all Indianapolis area locations and its Columbus location throughout the day. In the event of inclement weather, the fundraiser will be moved to Saturday, Oct. 15.

All funds raised will benefit Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, a nonprofit organization focused on leading the fight against hunger in Central and Southeast Indiana by collecting, storing, and distributing food to those in need.

“We are honored to once again partner with Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana,” said Billy Schaming, president and COO of Crew Carwash. “When you learn about the facts of hunger in Indiana, the numbers are astonishing. More than one million Hoosiers are in need of food assistance, and at Crew, we are determined to help raise money and end hunger in our local communities.”

At its inaugural HUNGERCREW event in 2015, Crew raised $22,000 and donated more than 3,000 pounds of canned goods to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. The donated canned goods translated to a wholesale dollar amount of more than $5,000, and the combined proceeds of the day enabled Gleaners to supply 68,500 meals for Hoosiers in need.

“Gleaners is so grateful for community partners such as Crew Carwash,” said John Elliott, president and CEO of Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. “For every $1 donated, we are able provide three meals to our neighbors in need. For every $5 donated, we can provide a backpack filled with nutritious food for a child who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend. Donations, no matter how small, make an immediate impact in our community.”

Nearly 50 Gleaners volunteers will be at Crew locations throughout the day, including 28 members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s recruiting class.

Crew and Gleaners are hosting a kick-off event at Crew’s downtown Indianapolis location at 1219 N. Meridian St., Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7 a.m. EDT. Gleaners and Crew executives will address the crowd, and Gleaners volunteers and members of the IMPD’s recruiting class will be on site collecting donations.
